5 Awesome Tips To Survive An Economic Crisis
We have been hearing friends, relative and even colleagues at work about the current standing of our economy as well as the continued unfavorable conditions in the labor market where massive lay-offs are taking place. In fact you may also agree that we too are greatly affected with this instability and feel the major results with the way our purchasing power seems to depreciate as prices of goods and services soar high.
I think this is the right time to make both ends meet and not just face this issue with a gloomy face. Below are 5 awesome tips that will help us survive an economic crisis:
1. Maintain a possible outlook in life
Nothing beats a person having a positive outlook in life. Even when everything seems to be out of place or not working according to your expectations, facing each challenge with optimism will always bring the best in you. Find ways to cope up with the obstacles coming your way and for sure you will end up triumphant.
2. Manage your financial resources wisely
Create a detailed list of your budget. Learn to prioritize your expenses based on your needs and wants. Once you have set-up your weekly budget, be sure to stick to it and make the necessary money-saving actions in order to prevent you from going beyond your means.
3. Check for bundle rewards and other coupon deals
Most businesses seeing this tough economy affecting their operations make partnership with other institutions to improve their sales or performance. A good example of this business mutual agreement is when your local gas station offers a reasonable discount when you avail their services and at the same time giving you discount privileges if you do business with their affiliated establishments like supermarkets or other convenience stores. Scout for the best bundle rewards and coupon deals being offered in your area. Increase your purchasing power without having to spend much by looking for great bargains and other promotional discounts.
4. Get another source of income
You can increase your current earnings by getting another source of income. For example, if you like baking so much, why not turn this hobby into cash by making yummy parties and start selling them to your friends, relatives and neighbors in the community. You may eventually realize that this hobby could lead you to another fruitful career path as an entrepreneur.
5. Enjoy life
The best and most effective way to combat this tough economy is to be grateful of what you have at the moment and learn to enjoy life. Don’t let this crisis affect your life or your mood for the day. Have fun and go out to see the real beauty of your surroundings. A simple stroll in the park that doesn’t require you to spend even a single penny could lighten up your trouble mind and help you to keep going on with your usual activities for the day.
Never let this tough economy ruin your outlook in life. There are a lot of ways on how you could surpass this tight budget situation. Learning to manage your finances wisely while being contented of what life has to offer at the moment will give you the inner peace and strength to pursue your goals. Stay directed with your target and that is to face this trial with a happy face.

Keeping a positive outlook is crucial, but when things really go bad and you run from one bad experience into another, it can be difficult. I think there are ways to earn some extra income, like getting a second (part time) job or possibilities to make extra money online (writing, reading e-mails, promoting a product). The budgeting issue is important at any time, also when the economy is going well. People might be less strict about their budgeting when everything looks good, and might end up with debt over time or when the economy is getting a bad beat.

be creative – look for ways to reduce costs. It doens’t have to mean being stingy or boring, but you can save money.
For example, grow some veggies at home – cheaper and tastier. Invite friends to watch a video instead of going to the movies – it’s often more fun anyway. Turn off the lights and have a candlelight dinner at home. Walk or ride a bike isntead of driving – save running costs plus improve your health.

I find carefully managing your budget is the most helpful way through the tough economical times. Buying store brands and using coupons are easy ways to save big. Cutting down on luxuries such as Starbucks also saves you quite a bit of money too, you can always brew your own coffee in the morning for much cheaper. Or you could just skip it all together. Cancelling or downgrading your entertainment packages is also a good way to save money. If you have on of those huge cable TV or satellite TV packages, I’m sure you don’t watch even a fraction of the channels that are available.

While we lived in the capitalist system, the crisis will be a recurring problem, and with increasing frequency. For this reason it is important to be prepared. I particularly liked the last tip. I believe it is essential to enjoy life. Thus, although there are economic hardships, the solutions become more relaxed. The key is to deal, instead of worrying. Optimism does not get along very well with reality, but it is an interesting alternative. Creativity is often another key tool in countering the effects of a crisis of great magnitude.

Good article. I think it is really important for individuals to find multiple streams of income…this is not the time to put all your eggs in one basket, income wise.
Also, looking at what is actually needed and being really realistic about it. Create as many assets as you can and pay off as much of your ‘bad’ debt…also, leverage the ‘good’ debt, if and when possible.
A friend of mine climbed out of incredible debt into a positive balance just applying these principles.

Great article. Embrace being frugal is all I have to say.

Excellent article. Some of these tips are interdependent, as you can’t really budget without an income to budget nor reduce your expense to negative values. Staying positive is, however, something we can all do any time regardless of situation.

Good advice for any time, and especially during these rough economic times. You definitely want to keep a positive attitude. Some of the best business success stories are of businesses that were started during tough economic times. I’ve started working part time on the internet and doing a little affiliate marketing. It’s a few hundred extra dollars a month that makes a difference. Also, I’m very budget conscious and I’m convinced that most people, if they evaluated their spending, cut out unnecessary purchases, shopped for reduced rates on insurance, credit cards, etc., could actually maintain or improve their quality of life by better budgeting practices.

Good tips. You really have to be creative and try to stay positive in situations like an economic crisis. But it is easier said than done. Sometimes it is really hard to stay positive and focused on things you can control when something like this happens that is totally out of your hands. It can really get you down. You really have to dig deep and like you said, find things to be appreciative about.

Joe, I agree in that it is very easy to keep your head down and lose all focus on saving your money.
What I do is just continue to think what all my efforts are ultimately about, and that is so I can save for the future and have money in case of emergency.
I take a look at all the things I already have that I don’t really need to keep me from buying more unnecessary items.

I think these are all spot on as to ways I’ve been working on getting by. I know that the other thing I hear going around a lot my mother is telling me is to stay in school and get all the education and experience you can. Make sure you go for the masters and PhDs now when it’s a lot harder to find the jobs. It will benefit and you can hopefully see improvement in the job market as you finish. I don’t know if that will be the case by the time I am done, but there’s hope. Either way I can gain some valuable experience and additional letters of recommendation and connections for the future!
I also appreciate the idea of working to the side. Doing extra work at things you enjoy and are good at goes a long way. At the same time you can have some fun and make a little money!

The article is very encouraging specially now when everyone out here is trying hard to make the two ends meet. All the tips are very good but what to do when it takes too long for things to get better. I have seen my best friend who is fighting this situation with a smile. Her husband is out of job, and she is thoroughly applying everything that she can to run the house. However, there are times when she breaks down & that is a very difficult time. I feel at that time she needs encouragement. So I think the last tip should be to be close to your best friend or to your mentor who can boost you up when every cell of your body is giving up.

Great blog post! Keeping your head up during hard times is a huge help. The type of mindset you keep will directly affect your life and the things that happen to you. I always try to keep on the look out for good deals on things id normally need anyhow. Sometimes I have to be careful as it’s easy to find such good deals that sometimes I snatch up things I really didn’t need. I find listing what is an absolute need and things that are more frivolous helps me keep it all in perspective and spending only what I can.
Oh, as a note, there’s a spelling mistake at the beginning of the blog post. Number 1 should be “Positive”, not “Possible”. Thanks again for the post!

There are many work from home opportunities available online these days as well, so if you choose to put in a few extra hours in the evenings after your primary job you can easily make supplemental income without having to compromise your home life as well.

These are great tips. Setting a budget, and sticking to it, is essential when income is uncertain or precarious. But often, I find that saving money means you have to spend more time. For example, instead of spending big bucks on groceries, you might clip coupons, which could take up a great deal of time. Everything has a compromise. I think creating an income on your own, based on skills you can market and sell, is the way to go. I can’t imagine there will be a sudden explosion of job opportunities in the future, so self-employment seems the best option, even if it’s only supplemental.
