6 Guidelines For Forum Marketing

Internet accessibility has indeed helped us in so many ways. Not only we use it for our researches, we depend as well with the internet for our day to day online transactions, but for those involved in businesses, the internet has been an effective site for maintaining one’s web presence and boosting any website’s page ranking position.

One of the best online marketing strategies that could help you connect with your chosen niche is the use of Forum Marketing. It is gaining popularity to promoters involved in SMM (Social Media Marketing). The main purpose of engaging in forums is to advertise a product or service to a particular group of individuals.

If you want to try Forum Marketing, then, you must be willing to invest quality amount of your time before you can see remarkable results. Here are 6 guidelines to help you out if you are newbie in joining forums.

1.      Write quality content

If you intend to join forums and share content, make sure that you write quality materials. Before you post a topic article, check carefully all that is written is true and relevant. Don’t try to mislead people by making false statements. This action will just project you as bogus or a spammer. When you join forums, show your targeted group that you are a real and credible person that can be relied on when they want accurate answers/solutions to their queries.

2.      Be an active member

Remember, when you sign-up or register for a particular forum, make it your commitment by becoming an active member. Showing up everyday would be effective in your motives of getting noticed, but again, take note that you only share quality posts or ideas.

3.      Provide a catchy signature

As a promoter for your business or company, joining forums is a good source to advertise your product or service. For you to make a stand-out and give an impressive presentation, use a catchy signature. Add color to it if possible and always include valuable information about your business.

4.      Don’t sell

The most suitable portion where you can only promote your product or service is by having a great signature Other than that you are not allowed to make a list of whatever you are selling. Don’t let your readers have the idea that you are just there with the intention to sell only. Giving valuable details about your company or business will bring more chance of your link to being clicked.

5.      Be positive

Don’t’ be discouraged if some readers post negative feedbacks. The best thing to do is just ignore them and avoid starting an argument. Be positive and take each feedback as additional information to make you a better individual.

6.      Always use an appropriate username and an impressive avatar

Forum marketing is indeed a good starter to promote one’s business. Always use an appropriate username and an impressive avatar that will blend well with all the details you provided in the forum. Project yourself in a professional manner. Avoid funky or too personal username. Use a credible picture as well that would best represent you or your business.

If you are serious in including Forum Marketing as one of your online marketing techniques, then, invest some of your time in becoming an expert in this field. There are countless online forum sites where you can make yourself visible and truly productive, thus, giving you more opportunities to expand your business. Fully utilize the wonderful benefits of this marketing tool for in the end this could bring more clients back to your site. Present yourself as someone trustworthy and knowledgeable in whatever topic you have started and be discreet when you try to advertise your product or service.

Excellent article. Thank you. Yes, forum marketing is quite a popular and effective form of marketing when done properly as you pointed out.

Respect is key in so many ways. Not everybody is going to agree but just adding quality will make people interested in you. There are many sites that I have visited as a result of meeting them on a forum.

It is a great place with a lot of wisdom floating around. Cool article.

You just have to make sure the forums your writing on allows forum signatures with URL links or stuff like that. A lot of them don’t now because of losing traffic to your site and that is a big hinderance on the possibility of gaining exposure.

And even if you can add your signature, there are so many people using forum to promote their website that it’s really rare when someone click on your link

I don’t find forums to be anywhere as useful for marketing as they used to be – more people use social media these days so many forums are smaller. But it is a great way to build relationships and demonstrates knowledge by answering relevant questions.

It is very important to check the rules of each forum – some don’t allow signatures or links form signatures as Randomhero said – as breaking the rules undoes your efforts and can be a bit embarrassing.

LIke effective social media, forum marketing is not about selling.

My site XXXX has great info on this!!!!!!!

The above would be a very bad way to promote your site!

Random and Tash make good points about checking the rules and the benefits of forums. My main uses of forums are for research purposes, because they’re still the best place to find out what mistakes you may make, and others have made before you.

I agree ASM. I’m very much whitehat when it comes to marketing strategies, I don’t like to dupe anyone, and I like giving the right information upfront.

When I USED to use forums (as Tash mentioned, its not as useful as it used to be), I would put a quite, subtle link to the site I was representing, and then my time was spent providing valuable input on the forums topics.

I’d rarely actually post a topic unless I had an actual question for the community.

I love the fact that you can interact as we are doing here on a forum and really begin to know people that you may actual work for or with. I have never thought about forum marketing before.

A lot of people actually make decisions judging on what other people say(forum discussions) therefore forums are a good way of online marketing and should therefore be moderated well to ensure the continuity of the forums. Thanks for the great guidelines.

Thanks for sharing these guidelines. Before buying a product, people usually turn to the internet to research to look for feedback from others who have tried the product.
Having a positive image on forums really helps business sell more and earn more.

I think the saddest part is that many people will skip the number 1. Which is the most important no? I don’t even know how many people comment on my blog saying “hey your blog is great look at my website” (and I already don’t like that kind of comment but that’s another subject). When I visit the blog or the forum, out of curiosity, the content is so poor… You can see when people just want money… And not having a quality content is the best way to fail .

Point #4 (Don’t Sell) can not be pushed enough. Realistically it should probably be the #1 item on this list. If you go to a forum and spam or push your product/link right off the bat, consider what you’ve just done a waste of time. The key to forum marketing is blending into your surroundings. Make it look like you want to be there not like you’re just there to push your own ideas.

Engage in intelligent discussion. When you have a decent reputation then it’s wise to drop in a product but only if it’s in a relevant way. Your reputation will not only make people listen but it should convert more people to whatever your cause is, whether it’s selling a product or pushing a link.

I used to participate in several forums quite a bit, was an admin at one of them. More recently I’ve kind of wanted to abandon social media and go back to forums. They’re more private in many ways, and you can have more open discussions without fear of an employer snooping around.

Great information. I had been thinking of using forums to help my business. But you have to use tact when doing so and your article gives really good information on how to do that. Becoming an active member and an expert in a particular niche is really good advice also.

Very good info, I already bookmarked the page. I’ve always shied away from Forums because it seemed like a lot of time would be involved plus I just wasn’t sure how to do it effectively. Some forums I’ve joined in the past required that I make a number of posts before I could put a link in my signature, and I just never followed through.

I think though, if you are providing useful and pertinent content you could develop a positive reputation and if you linked back to your blog, with lead capture on it, you could brand yourself and turn some visitors into subscribers and future repeat visitors. I may give it a try.

It all comes down to quality. If you go for the Fast and Lazy way, trying to sell something or short term gains, you’ll eventually fail. Make quality contributions, and you’ll build a good reputation. Other than trying to get something out of your participation, it’s also a good idea to be active on forums to see what is ‘hot’ in the market that you’re in, and to pick up ideas, gain knowledge, etc.

I see participation in forums, blogs, etc as a way to get more knowledge that will help me and my business activities.

Yes. Forum marketing had indeed been an integral part of promotion of many business. I myself have promoted plenty of businesses through forums. And i do notice an increased activity of business owners and support staff in variety of forums, and that should probably help them make themselves into a brand.

A busy forum is a beautiful thing for a marketer. If you build a reputation as a helpful contributor, you can definitely promote your business via forums.
