3 Basic Steps: Blog Creation

May 9, 2012 by Doree Lyn Nuguid in Business with 29 Comments

As companies see the true importance of online visibility, many have decided to focus on blogging and made a particular section in their website concentrated and available in this area for their online visitors and potential clients.

Blog creation for some writers come out naturally and it must be their gifted talents in writing that make it easy, but for some individuals trying to become efficient in blogging may find these 3 basic steps useful. Remember, in order for one to master a certain skill like blogging, constant practice and determination to be good in whatever you do in essentially important to succeed.

1.      Create relevant blog content

Whether you are already an expert blogger or a newbie writer trying to make a name in this kind of profession, it is vital that when you start creating your blog content it should be relevant and useful to your target group or niche. Decide, where do you want to concentrate? For example, if you intend to get the attention of avid gamers, then, it would be great to focus on topics related to their favorite games. Give them informative types of blogs if you want to share gaming tips on how to play better in the latest MMORPG games or other online games.

2.      Give your blog a personal approach

Most successful bloggers would definitely say that one of the major reasons why people get fascinated or intrigued while reading their blogs is due to the personal approach they give in each blog topic presented. Bear in mind that your blog is a representation of your overall personality. Try to create blogs that are fun to read, unique and at the same time engaging, where readers can also give their point of view through your comments portion. Learn to express your ideas naturally without being subjective or biased.

3.      Provide adequate explanation to your choice of topic

Creating a blog content for your target readers can be very challenging. If you have already chosen a topic to discuss, be sure you have a detailed outline or draft of whatever you want to share. Provide ample explanation to your content. See to it that there is a continuous flow of ideas from start to finish and all parts needed in making a good content are present like heading, body and conclusion or recommendation. Make use of words that are widely used in our day to day conversation. Your main concern when making a blog is to make sure that the message you want to relay to your readers is properly explained and easily understood.

Blogging is one of the best forms to connect to your targeted individuals or group. Many website owners create blogs for the purpose of gaining popularity online, getting the much desired traffic lead back to their site and lastly, ranking high in the particular industry they are situated.

Whatever is your motive at the moment in creating blogs, always make it a point that your topic is appealing, a good source of valuable information and enjoyable to read. For sure you want your readers to finish reading your blog and keep coming back for more relevant posts.

I agree that blog content must be relevant to your audience – and make sure it is the right audience you are attracting if blogging for business!

It is important to decide on a style for your blog and then make the rules to match that style. For example, your posts may not be fun if it doesn’t suit your topic, but they can still be engaging. Posts can be biassed and non-subjective if you are writing an opinionated blog. It’s all up to your purpose and your audience’s expectations.

Awesome article. I like all the points. I know everyone keeps on saying it all the time but it is so true that remaining relevant is so important. Also, really giving the reader what they want…in your own unique and authentic voice.

Just highly quality cutting edge information always grabs me. Each and every time. Those are the blogs I bookmark and return to (like this one!)…never self-indulgent ones.

    Thank you for the advice.
I have started a blog, and like everything else it sounds and looks good in my head…but the actual outcome is 5th grade material at best. I know I need to change, but I often get writers block whenever I go to write.

I love blogs that are informative and helpful and this is one blog post that’s both informative and helpful and written in such a manner that is so easy to read.

It’s important that when you blog, there is a dialogue between you and the reader and the reader will keep coming back to your blog.

And updating your blog often is also important. You don’t want your reader to come back seeing the same old content. At least write one blog post daily at best or at worst one blog post a week.

    Great article as always.
Is it accepted now that blogs are a good way to get search engines to notice your site?

I have a couple of sites, so should I set up blogs on each and link to myself? I don’t have that much to write about them though!

It’s funny (I’ll see if I can recall the site), but it’s for a graphic design artist, and his site gets high enough traffic that it has AdPack advertising on it, and he only has 6 blog posts. I guess you can really luck out in that manner. Some sites only require a post a month or so to keep Google keen, and organic traffic flowing through.

I think one of the most important things to do when creating a blog is to make sure you know what you are talking about. I have read some blogs where the people running them are writing about topics that they know little to nothing about. When people do this it is usually very apparent, and it turns everyone off from their services.

Only 6 posts for good traffic is amusing and impressive, Aidan! I think the frequency required depends on the blog itself but to kick start it for SEO purposes 3 a week is often given as the minimum – you can cut back later once you have got established.

I really depends on how keen you are for growth really. Has anyone tried the 30 blog posts in 30 days test? It can be quite laborious.

I myself don’t post regularly at all (I should definitely post more of my own authored content). But there is a balance I believe. If I blog as much as would be optimal for SEO, then I may find myself getting tired of the concept and inevitably fail anyway.

I’d personally rank enjoyment over SEO, but that’s me :)

Some more good points about blogging. Up until last year I have been writing in the third person to try to keep my websites sounding professional. However, when I go to other websites that are written this way they seem boring and lack creativity. Recently, I’ve started writing from a more personal level but still find myself switching back and forth from time to time. Oh well, hardly anyone reads my stuff anyway.

I really love the ideas in this article. It really simplifies the basic way to set up your first blog. Blogs are great as a tool that helps your audience get to know you as a person along with your business.

  15. theaaaJuly 12, 2012 at 7:58 pmReply

Do you have any tips on how to increase traffic to a blog? I know most newbies are trying to set-up blogs, and the amount of views a blog generates always seems to be low, so how can you make more people read your blog without blatantly advertising?

    • TashWordAugust 15, 2012 at 7:08 pmReply

Having great content is the best start, Theaaa, as it gives people a reason to come back and tell others about it.

But some easy ways to encourage traffic are:

      – add your blog URL to email and forum signatures
      - add your URL when commenting on other blogs
      - do some guest blogging
      - make it easy for people to share your posts on social media
      - share your posts on your social media profiles

Good article. I am relatively new to blogging and I am constantly looking for ideas and ways to improve my writing. I really enjoy the process of creating a blog and want to make sure that what I am creating is both engaging and informative. I think another point you could have added to your article, is to make sure that you writing uses proper grammar, mechanics and spelling. I have been reading a lot of blogs lately(not on this site) that have interesting topics, but the writing is so bad , I could hardly finish reading them.

Great article. One thing I do really focus on, is making my content as personal as possible. Otherwise, your content won’t be as unique and interesting for readers. If you don’t have a distinctive voice, you may not garner much of a regular audience.

I like the idea of giving your blog a personal approach or your own personal “style”. It’s always a wise idea to have passion for the blog you’re writing for because with passion comes greatness in your writing and engagement with the audience.
Be sure to advertise as much as possible to get some kind of community going on and really get your name out there! Good luck to future bloggers.

Thank you so much for this piece of advice. My friends have been telling me to start a blog, but I was very skeptical about it. Though I have been told that I have a flair in expressing my thoughts, there were few things that were always bothering me, which thanks for your article I am much relieved. I would also like to know few more things. Like how long should be a blog and how frequently should we keep posting new blogs?

  23. vida_llevaresAugust 27, 2012 at 12:33 pmReply

Creating a blog is, for me, the easiest phase in blog management. Maintaining it and increasing its traffic would be more difficult. You need to come up with fresh and relevant article ideas so that your readers will keep on coming back to your blog. You also need to promote your blog to increase your readership. You need to understand what your target market wants and needs to read about.

  24. KennyKAugust 29, 2012 at 8:31 pmReply

Interesting read. Three simple steps in theory, but it can give quite some struggles in practice. For me, content is king, but without enough advertising power, it’s really going to take long before people find your site consistently. I often hear about people who start a site/blog, they have a lot of energy, they make articles, and then they get disappointed when they don’t get comments, followers, traffic. If you only get spammers to find you, then you might give up fast…

  25. zilyasSeptember 14, 2012 at 6:53 amReply

I relate to, and agree with, much of what you’ve outlined in this article. I’ve had several blogs over the years, and I find the most important element is having a distinct, but authentic, voice. It gives your writing a sense of honesty that is compelling to an audience. In addition to voice, having a sense of authority also helps. Authority involves well-researched information (when applicable) that is delivered with confidence. In my experience voice and credibility go a long way.

  26. bloggerMBSeptember 26, 2012 at 4:51 pmReply

Great tips for beginners! Making your content personal is something that many people seem to ignore. They throw out boring information on their blog and then think people will care enough to comment.

Making a connection with your readers is what is really important, and is what will cause people to return to your blog time and time again.

Blogging about something you are passionate about helps of course, as then your natural enthusiasm for the subject will draw people in, and people related to your niche will want your expert discussion on the topic.

This is a well developed website. I would suggest this site to almost anyone. Great job!

I do really try to take a personal approach. So many blogs have similar niches and content, therefore, you need something to set you apart.
