How to Use The Google Plus Share Button
Google has been very busy this week with their Drive offering, however something that flew in under the radar is their new Google Plus Share Button.
Previously we have had the ability to +1 a page or post, but now site owners can allow visitors to share the posts with their friends and contacts.
The core difference between the +1 and the share then? The Google +1 is more of an endorsement of the material, however it doesn’t actually share it onto your stream. The Google Plus Share function will prompt the users which of their circles they want to share with, then include it in their stream.
So, on to the fun part. Implementation.
Here is an example of the simple button:
Simple Button
This is a general 20px button used to share content. Much like the +1 buttons, these will change colour once used.
<script src="https://apis.google.com/js/plusone.js"></script><g:plus action="share"></g:plus>
Share Tag
Here is the standard share code
<g:plus action="share" ...></g:plus>
HTML5 Div version
<div class="g-plus" data-action="share" ... ></div>
Asynchronous JavaScript Loading
Asynchronous inclusion allows your web page to continue loading while your browser fetches the share JavaScript. By loading these elements in parallel, you’re ensuring the HTTP request that gets the share button JavaScript doesn’t increase your page load time
<script type="text/javascript"> (function() { var po = document.createElement('script'); po.type = 'text/javascript'; po.async = true; po.src = 'https://apis.google.com/js/plusone.js'; var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(po, s); })();</script>

Thanks Aidan
Does sharing a link also give it a plus 1, or are they completely separate actions?

Have you seen a difference in the traffic on your blog since you use the Google +1 button?

Thanks for this. I think this will be helpfull to advertise my forum a bit. I was just wondering. Once a user click the Google +1 Who sees that the user clicked it ? Is this a great way to share a website or only the user who clicked the button will see the link ?

I think due to Facebook timeline and other changes made some people to find to other social networks like Google +, pintrest .. etc. Any how nice post. Keep it up.

I added Google plus in my blog but it didn’t help much in promotion. I guess it still boils down to how popular your blog or site is prior to adding Google plus. Anyway Google plus is still indeed growing so I guess there is more to come and I am sticking with them.

I really need to figure out how to utilize this and Google + in general. I feel as though there is no point to even including them on my blog, until I have more people in my circle. I feel like every other day there is a new popular social network to be on.

Thanks for this information. I still need to figure out if I really need to use this as I have less people in my circle. I surely want to know how helpful has this been in creating traffic?
