Google is ready to release a new version of their cross-app navigation system. It appears to be very geared towards the mobility sector, with ease of access for smaller form factors, and touch. That said, I still quite like it as a uniform nav even on my desktop. So without further ado, here is how to enable it.
If you use Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Internet Explorer 8+, open google.com in a new tab, load Chrome’s JavaScript console (Ctrl+Shift+J), Firefox’s Web Console (Ctrl+Shift+K), Safari’s Web Inspector (how to do that?) or IE’s Developer Tools (press F12 and select the “console” tab) and paste the following code:
document.cookie="PREF=ID=03fd476a699d6487:U=88e8716486ff1e5d:FF=0:LD=en:CR=2:TM=1322688084:LM=1322688085:S=McEsyvcXKMiVfGds; path=/; domain=.google.com";window.location.reload();

Sweet! I’ve been waiting for it to show up, it looks pretty good. I liked the “black bar” setup, but this is even better. The only problem is that if you delete the cookie or have cookies blocked, this won’t work.

Yea you’re right Neil, they should be releasing it soon.
I’m kind of on the fence at the moment. I’m not sure if I like it. Perhaps it’ll just take some getting used to.
I noticed that ‘YouTube’ now takes priority over ‘Videos’ as well. Which I actually don’t mind.

I’m not able to figure out how to get it. Still, I would wait for the official look though. Can anyone give me exact instructions and/or show me a screenshot?
Where should we paste the code given? I want to see it.

RPCOM which browser are you using?
If you are using Firefox, go to Google’s website then press the keys Control, Shift & K together to get an interface where you can type commands. Copy the code given above and paste it in the space where there is a blinking cursor and press enter. You should be able to see the changes. To close the interface press the Control, Shift & K keys together again. If you are using a different browser, simply use different keys as specified in the article.
Give it a try and see if it works for you.

I don’t quite understand what this is supposed to do. I pasted the code as stated, closed the console, and it seems the only difference is the black bar is gone (woo! I didn’t like the black bar). I think the above poster is onto something with the idea of posting a screenshot. I think I did it right, but I’m not 100% sure. A screenshot would help with that.

I can’t get this to work on Chrome! I know that the new navigation exists because I went on my friends Macbook and they seemingly had it by default (without any action by them).
Is Google rolling this out gradually? Any reason that this new navigation system is on my non-technical friends Macbook and yet they’ve not done anything to enable it?

The same thing is happening to me Mikey. I’m really excited to see what Google is going to do for the navigation bar but I still get the same one. Oh well I guess I’ll just have to wait for them to roll it out themselves.

I tried this on Firefox and it didn’t change anything. Maybe they did an update or something?

Nice information friend.
I’m going to perform these steps when I get a chance to.

Thanks for the information on better navigation but I may not be associating my time with google anymore. With constant changes in policy and the lose of privacy making us completely transparent, I think google needs to slow down on there take over and let us be americans.

Is this an old article? I pasted the code into the Javascript console but didn’t see any changes. Could somebody advise me on this matter?
