When to send out press releases online?
Online Press Releases are a great tool for a bit of extra attention. But apparently when to post them is something that not everyone has mastered yet. I always keep an eye on a number of PR sites just to see whats happening in the world. However, I don’t take much stock in them as these days it’s mainly an SEO battleground and Hubris machine now, rather than actual factual information. I read to today of a ‘Genius’ whom had ‘shocked’ the entire Online Marketing industry by releasing his methods in a $70 eBook. I for one had never heard of him, and Google certainly hadn’t either. But one thing had me thinking this morning, I saw a release for a brand new Social Media consultancy, and this always intrigues me. For those that have heard me speak on the topic, I think that Social Media should be handled by a trained marketer and incorporated into the existing online strategy, not something all on its own. I would never hire a Social media company, but I would hire an Marketing Consultancy whom also specialises in Social media. That aside, this Press Release really pumped up this company as being the next best thing, a great success for it’s clients, had a link to twitter etc; But no web address. No Facebook page. So how do I get a hold of these marketing dynamos? I’ll try Googling them! No direct result, but I had found a link on another PR page to their site. Nope, no such page… Why go to the effort of putting out releases if there is no information to back it up? Its not even as though they were going to get link backs as they only had 1 link out of the many PR releases they pushed out into the world. For legitimate PR readers, and hell, even blog bots, it pays to have the correct linkage in the posts, but alo have those links actually go somewhere. To go out to the world and try and sell them on your product is a hard thing, its even harder when there is no product yet.
