Subernova – Project Management Tool

February 24, 2011 by Aidan Bradley in Business, Featured, Web Apps with 2 Comments

“SUBERNOVA is a project management tool that makes you more productive by taking the stress out of remembering important details of your projects, lets you track time, send invoices and estimates, collaborate with others and keeps your business smooth by keeping tabs on late payments, deadlines and more.” – http://www.subernova.com/ I’m always on the lookout for tools to make my life easier as a designer/developer, only to find that most pieces of software either don’t get the point, or miss basic functionality. Thankfully, this is not the case with Subernova. It shows that the team from Hex put a lot of time and effort into building a solid app for the average freelancer. I must say that it’s aesthetic helps also. A primary reflection of a freelancer’s lifestyle is the ease of access from iPhone, Web, Desktop App, and iPad; I myself am not an Apple fan, but I can still appreciate whats being done. I also found that the desktop app was in no way lacking. So lets look at some of the key features: Projects Overview: All your project status at a glance. Share projects with your team/clients to collaborate on tasks, milestones etc. Milestones: Break down projects into manageable milestones and tasks, assign it to clients or anyone in your team who are responsible. Create Invoices & Estimates: Spend less time creating invoices & estimates. Brand them with your logo and domain name. Time Tracking: An integrated timer to charge your clients by the hour or simply to charge for additional requests to prevent scope creep. Schedule Emails To Clients: Need to follow up with a client at a later date? Don’t wait till then, schedule an email now and forget. Collaboration: Let co-workers and clients track or create tasks with you so that everyone gets a better idea of where the project is heading. Pricing: From $14.99 a month it is accessible to anyone in the field. Overall: If you don’t currently have a tool that looks after your Project Management and Invoicing, then without hesitation head to their site. The only time I would hesitate is if you were already setup with an existing system. Transitioning can be a pain.

  • Linx: Good article, with truly valuable information. More and more I feel that the global office is becoming more virtual - calling for different ways of doing things. I have been freelancing since 2004 and I have found that what made it more fulfilling and lucrative for me - was not lowering my value. If you know you provide a great product or/and service, hold true and those that value you will come along. Then you will have too much work. So, I would say never ever undervalue yourself. Time is your greatest resource; use it wisely. View Post
  • anotherspaceman: My site XXXX has great info on this!!!!!!! ---- The above would be a very bad way to promote your site! Random and Tash make good points about checking the rules and the benefits of forums. My main uses of forums are for research purposes, because they're still the best place to find out what mistakes you may make, and others have made before you. View Post
  • TashWord: To me, being connected and available all the time is a massive disadvantage. I work at a computer all day, working for clients, dealing with emails and admin, researching, doing accounts, etc. So when I stop work at the end of the day, I want to stop work and not be bothered by emails and client messages. Having that distance is good for my mental health AND my bank balance :) View Post
  • TashWord: Only 6 posts for good traffic is amusing and impressive, Aidan! I think the frequency required depends on the blog itself but to kick start it for SEO purposes 3 a week is often given as the minimum - you can cut back later once you have got established. View Post
  • TashWord: I don't find forums to be anywhere as useful for marketing as they used to be - more people use social media these days so many forums are smaller. But it is a great way to build relationships and demonstrates knowledge by answering relevant questions. It is very important to check the rules of each forum - some don't allow signatures or links form signatures as Randomhero said - as breaking the rules undoes your efforts and can be a bit embarrassing. LIke effective social media, forum marketing is not about selling. View Post
